The old man called the cops on me and said, “You deserve to rot in jail for the rest of my life for what you did.” He believed that I killed my father and killed the cop too. I was handcuffed to a pipe on the wall; I couldn’t move. The old man went into the next room and I tried to escape by breaking off the pipe, but it was too sturdy. Then, I spotted Daniel in the window. He snuck in through the window and handed me the keys and I escaped. We were caught, but I punched the old man and I started running for my life.
I spotted a car where I found Kai inside and I banged on his car door asking for help. He asked, “What’s going on, what happened?” I told him, “The old man tied me up in his back office. He started to beat me up.” Kai believed me and let Jordan and I in the car and drove off. Kai gets some bandages from the back to take care of the scars the old man gave me. When Jordan was asleep, Kai wanted to talk to me outside about what happened in Seattle with my father. He knew who I was and yet still helped us. I told him the truth, “My neighbor was picking on my brother outside and started beating me up and I got into a fight and someone called the cops. When the cop showed up, he shot him. They killed my dad in front of me.” I couldn’t help but cry.
Kai said to me, “Injustice is everywhere. But, the most important thing is that you have each other.” Kai took Jordan and I into a motel. I thanked him for saving us and hoped that we would see each other again. He paid for a room for us and sent us on our way. Jordan and I head into our room and set up a bath for us. I set up a bath for Jordan because we have been walking for days without a bath. We reek. I let him take a bath first. I charged my phone and I realize I have to dispose of it because the police can be tracking us. But, Jessica has been texting me since the incident at my home. I couldn’t get Jessica involved in this so I threw my phone on the ground and broke it so they couldn’t track us. I went to get myself a soda from the vending machine outside our room. It was then that I heard what sounded like an earthquake.
I ran into my motel room when I realized it’s from Jordan. He has this power and was triggered by finding out our father is dead after watching the news in our room. Everything in the room was flying around him and he was in the eye of it. It looked like we had a tornado inside the room. Jordan blamed me for our father’s death. Jordan angrily said, “WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL ME?!” I told him, “I was going to tell you, I’m sorry Jordan. I wish I could’ve told you sooner.” I hug him as he starts crying on my shoulder. I continued to tell him I’m sorry for what happened. He then fell asleep on my lap from exhaustion, so I put him to bed. I started to process that Jordan has a superpower like telekinesis and I would have to teach him to control it. We leave the motel in the morning and catch the bus for the next town. I know where to go to be safe, and that’s where my father was born. We have to cross the border to Mexico and hope that we can finally escape all of this.
