Hughson High School was blessed with an invitation from T-Mobile to potentially win a multi-million dollar stadium earlier this year. This Tuesday, December 3, 2024, the final tally for the votes came in. Hughson unfortunately came second in votes making Inola High School the winner. This whole competition was not in vain though. The school was able to receive some rewards from placing so high in the competition and valuable experiences.
Justice Futch, Athletic Director at Hughson High said, “I’m sure we had some likes bought and I’m sure other schools had some bought, but we knew they were gonna recount all of the votes at the end of the whole competition and tally up all of the votes.”
The T-Mobile competition really brought the town of Hughson together as a whole. Whether it was from wearing pink for the Friday Night Lights, or even sharing an Instagram reel to everyone they know. There were kids spreading it at airports and at their conventions. Even some famous people were seeing our reals and reposting them. It was safe to say the whole town was coming together to support our Huskies.
Loren Lighthall, the principal at Hughson High said, “One thing that was really cool was that everyone was invested in the competition. Kids at the National Convention were sharing it, teachers at conferences, and Hughson moms were helping out.”
The T-Mobile presentation also brought along some rewards. Some of the rewards were money. This money included one check for $5,000 and another for $25,000. With this money the school will be able to reinvest it back into the kids. T-Mobile also gave us their merchandise and advertisements for the competition. Not only did some of our kids and fans get free shirts, they also got free seat pads, and noisemakers. Everyone was able to learn or get something from this experience.
Gavin Gomez, a junior at Hughson High, said, “The game was crazy, one of the best I have ever been to, and T-Mobile made it even better, with the free shirts the whole student section was pink and it was so cool to be part of and able to see my hometown school win some big money.”
