Two months have passed since the incident at the motel. We kept wandering from place to place when we found a home in the middle of the forest that was abandoned. For a while, we found a good place to train Jordan and help him control his power. We train 2 days a week and every week he keeps getting stronger. He went from lifting twigs to boulders and I made him follow these three rules; hide your power, don’t talk about it, and run from danger. I simply told Jordan that it’s dangerous for anyone to find out about his power because people might call the cops if they find out. After training, I realized that Jordan was getting sick and I didn’t have any medicine for him. We even found a dog that was abandoned by her owner who was living in the abandoned home for a while. We started to take care of her and Jordan named her Mushroom because of her white and brown spots. I started to go over the rules with Jordan and asked him if he remembers them, to which he repeated them to me. I started making dinner for him; it’s the same everyday because it’s all we could afford.
After dinner, I start planning our next move and because Jordan isn’t getting better. I had a serious talk with him and started planning to head to our grandparents and hope they will take us in to help Jordan get better. I said, “We have at least a 3 day walk, Jordan. We’ll get ready to head out in the morning.” The next morning, we started getting ready to go when Mushroom went to the bathroom outside. When we were ready to go, I realised Mushroom hadn’t come back. Jordan and I went to look for her when we saw a trail of blood followed by a puma digging its fangs into Mushroom. Out of rage, Jordan used his power and broke every bone in the animal’s body and killed it. He started crying on me and he was sad that his best friend is gone. We buried Mushroom before we left and we will never forget her and how much she would make us happy after the bad times we’ve had. We’ll miss you Mushroom. We then started on our journey together and hoped to help Jordan get well.
Most of the nights Jordan had on the way to our grandparent’s home were filled with nightmares of Dad and Mushroom. I feel terrible for Jordan and how much we’ve had to suffer. This world is a terrible place for someone like Jordan. Life is one strange thing. We’ve had weeks of happiness with Mushrooms by our side until some random animals robbed us of our happiness. I just hope the world isn’t all black and white. The next day, we finally made it to Nevada and we are close to our grandparent’s home. I just hope they take us in.
