As the chemistry grows in the locker room and the weather becomes colder and colder the grind is just beginning for the Hughson Huskies varsity baseball team. The baseball team has had lots of success over the past few seasons but have always come up just short of the ultimate goal, to win a section title and go on to win state. For these seniors it’s their last chance to do it after being so close with heartbreaking losses to end their past years. Everyone feels confident that this is finally it. The players have grown stronger and been practicing in the weight room or on the field every week day.
We asked two key players on this varsity team Max Mankins and Carlos Guizar about how they think the season will go and how the team looks. Mankins who is well known as a division one football player had this to say, “I think we will do very well this season. We will face challenges and we are going to be good enough to overcome them.” With a combined record of seventy and twenty in the last three seasons they have definitely proven themselves to be serious threats to bring home the blue banner. Carlos Guizar who will be playing his forth varsity season stated this when asked about how good he thinks the team will be this year “The team will be very good and stacked with tons of great players and talent.”
