Over the past couple of months, the Varsity Boys Soccer team was struggling. These problems were caused by injury and not having enough substitutions due to a few fall sports continuing into the winter season. Another issue was synergy, or what some like to call “Team Chemistry.” Many players were on and off the field. They didn’t have a designated striker, yet to find the best person for that position as well as a few others. This was a hard time, but over the weeks, the team came together. Fall sports ended, and more players came out to join the team, and many fit in perfectly.
Currently, the team is showing tremendous growth from the beginning of the season. They’ve learned how to bring the best out of each others play styles as well as communicating, passing, and overall playing as a team. Adrian Andrade, a senior on the team, said, “We’ve definitely been getting better. There is still improvement that needs to be made, but with what we have learned, I think it’s great that it has got us to where we are this season.”
Andre Aguilar, another senior player, stated, “We have definitely went through tough times and took a couple losses, but we’re getting better by growing as a team and not only to work for one another but to love each other.” The athletes have a positive attitude and outlook with what has happened so far, and as long as it stays that way, we hope to see many more wins throughout the rest of the season.
As of this week, 01/13 – 01/20, the Huskies are 4th in the TVL, with a record of 3-2-1. With three wins, two losses, and one tie, the Huskies are still in the running for placement on the Trans Valley League podium. As they have played every team once already, right now must be the turning point of the season. Their next game is on January 22nd, at home against Ripon. Previously, we tied 3-3 with Ripon on their home field, so hopefully we can show that our hard work paid off. Good luck Huskies!
