Welcome to week Two of The Pre-Game, this week there will be three huge games to talk about across Hughson High. Here we will give you the best look inside some of the key players minds for a great prediction during the upcoming week in Huskies sports.
January 21, Boys Varsity Basketball 7:00pm V.S Orestimba @ Orestimba High School
The Varsity boys basketball team have had a very up and down season so far with each game being crucial for a late season playoff push. After coming off a few rough games versus more of the harder teams in the league, a game against the Orestimba Warriors could be a great chance to bounce back and gain some momentum going forward. This is their very first season in the TVL and so far things have been hard with a 5-9 record overall. Compared to the Huskies 9-9 this seems like a very winnable game for Hughson. On the road this year they sit at a solid 6-6 so the atmosphere doesn’t really have a crazy effect on the boys especially with the majority of the games away from the home crowd. Senior J.C Lupercio said this when asked about how he thinks the season has been so far and their upcoming game “Our season has been pretty good so far with some ups and downs, lots of adversity through the start that we are working hard to overcome. I think this game will be a very good game, if we play how we’ve developed and stick to the game plan we should come out with a win.”
Score Prediction Hughson W 59-54
January 22, Boys Varsity Soccer 3:30pm V.S Ripon @ Ripon High School
The Varsity boys soccer team has been off to a rough start to their season with a record of 5-10-2. Despite their struggles the Huskies have managed to stand in the middle of the pack for the league title. A 3-2-1 record in the TVL has Hughson desperate to win out in order to have a chance to bring home the league title. This starts with a rivalry game against the Ripon Indians who have been better than ever this season at 9-7-1 and first in the TVL. These two squads had a 3-3 tie last time they faced off but this time the Huskies have the edge with their season on the line they have everything to play for. Coming off of a big 2-1 win against Hilmar these boys are starting to gain some momentum for the last games of the season. Valente Soria had some words to say about the upcoming rivalry game and his thoughts on the season so far, “The season was off to a rough start but we still put in lots of work to improve in the season. Our game against Ripon will definitely be a better outcome than the last game, during the first game everyone wasn’t locked in and the little mistakes killed us. I feel confident in my team this game and we will dominate.”
Score Prediction Hughson W 3-2
January 24, Girls Varsity Soccer 3:30pm V.S Ripon Christian @ Ripon Christian High
A struggling girls soccer team takes on the thriving Ripon Christian Knights. With the Huskies still winless in the TVL this won’t be an easy one to get a W on the board. After losing a couple key players over the years they just haven’t been able to properly bounce back yet. Even though playoffs are out of reach there’s always a chance to finish the season strong and show some pride to finish the year. The girls only have one goal in the last six games which is the main problem, nobody has really stepped up to take the striker role and it’s showing. While the defense has had better games than others, they have surrendered twenty total scores in the last six which have all been against league opponents. This game may be out of reach for Hughson but at least showing some bright spots to the coaching staff could give everyone hope for next season such as putting some goals onto the scoreboard or keeping them below three. Presley Wells had these things to say about the process on the team and thoughts on the upcoming game “I believe we have improved a lot from our past seasons, these games have had lots of ups and downs preparing us for the future games. I think it will be a tough match-up, we lost game one but we are hoping to come back strong and win game two.”
Score Prediction Hughson L 3-1
As another week in Husky sports arrives our athletes believe they’re going to achieve big goals and dominate in their respective sports with intense practices and dedication. Through the wins and losses we will always show support. Here’s to hoping our teams bring their best and make us all proud.
