For this week’s story we have interviewed Mrs. Tavernier. She’s a teacher who came from Hickman and now teaches math class at Hughson High School. We have also interviewed two students who are Dafne Blandon, and Kassandra Torres to state how they feel about Mrs. Tavernier.
Katelyn Tavernier is a math teacher here at Hughson High school, Tavernier started working with students in January of 2023. Tavernier taught students at Hickman Middle school prior to her teaching in Hughson High School. She attended Grand Canyon University for college and to get her certification. The highlight of Tavernier’s teaching years is when students tell her how much she’s made math enjoyable or easier to understand.
Tavernier states “As a teacher, it is incredibly rewarding to know that I’ve helped make a challenging subject feel a little less intimidating.” To Tavernier her biggest challenge with students is that it’s no secret that math is often one of the least favorite subjects for students, so one of the most challenging but yet rewarding aspects is finding ways to make it more relatable and engaging for the students. For Tavernier she feels that she’s had so much help and support that it’s hard to choose just one person because so many people have been incredibly helpful. The entire math department provided support whenever she needed it, and other teachers on campus also guided her through non-math related matters like finding the copiers. Tavernier feels that the two teachers she gotten very close with is a close connection with Mrs. Christianson and Mrs. Daysog. Since they all teach the same grade, it’s great for them to collaborate and share ideas to make learning more engaging and exciting. She definitely feels like teaching has gotten easier for her after the first year!
Dafne has 4th period with Mrs.Tavernier, Dafne thinks she’s a good and chill teacher. This is Dafnes first time having Mrs Tavernier as her teacher. Dafne would definitely miss Mrs.Tavy, she is very fun, and a very cool teacher to have.
Kassandra has 4th period with Mrs. Tavernier, Dafne really feels that she’s a good teacher and is very supportive and understanding. This is Kassandras second time with Mrs. Tavernier, Kassandra would for sure miss Mrs. Tavy because she is really sweet and funny to talk to.
