Nicole Mayo, also known as Mrs. Mayo has been teaching for eleven years. Mrs. Mayo was inspired to become a teacher by her love for helping people out, especially the people she loves. Mrs. Mayo’s favorite part about teaching is the “light bulb moments”. The light bulb moments are when a student finally understands something they have been struggling with. Mrs. Mayo does not know her favorite lessons to teach only because she teaches different things every year to different groups of students. Mrs. Mayo absolutely loves being an Education Specialist because she enjoys being able to help kids become a better version of themselves. If Mrs. Mayo was not a teacher she would have loved to be a baker. Mrs. Mayo’s goal for her students by the end of the school year is for her students to pass all their classes. Mrs. Mayo’s way to teach students who have special needs is to teach all students different ways of doing things and by helping them.
Mrs. Mayo handles classroom discipline by understanding why her student is acting out the way he or she is and tries to understand why they acted out. Whenever there is a conflict between students, Mrs. Mayo tries to communicate with each student and tries to understand why they acted out. When a student is struggling Mrs. Mayo always finds a way to help the student out in every way possible. Mrs. Mayo’s way to handle stress and maintain work-life balance as a teacher is to leave work alone when she is home and walk her dogs to destress. Mrs. Mayo’s advice for someone who wants to become a teacher is to just commit to it if you truly love it. Mrs. Mayo quotes, “It is a rewarding career, and you can make a huge difference in someone’s life.” Mrs. Mayo’s favorite memory at this school is all the memories she has made with both students and staff here at HHS.
