This fantasy book follows the idea of Shadowhunters. They are half humans half angels and their whole goal in life is to go around the world and kill demons who have escaped hell and they are both unable to be seen by “mundanes” aka humans. There are also vampires, werewolves, and warlocks. There are around 30 books made off of the idea of shadowhunters and I have read 10 of them so far, but this one is the first in a series of six and is set in New York with our main characters Jace Wayland and Clary Fray. Jace is a shadowhunter and he has been in the New York Institute most of his life with his friends Alec and Isabelle. While Clary is just your average teenage girl just trying to get through life with her best friend Simon, then Clary’s birthday comes along and she decides to take Simon to a club with her where she witnesses this man kill another person, but somehow no one else could see it when it was in the middle of the club?

This book was the one that sparked my interest in reading! It became my whole personality and everything that I would talk about. Me in seventh grade wanted to be Clary, I loved reading all the characters interacting and I was obsessed. You just have to overlook certain things that happen in the third book, but other than that, it is amazing and I loved it so much!
