Jillian Jimenez, also known as Mrs. Jimenez, has been teaching for six years. Jimenez decided to be a teacher when she coached volleyball here at Hughson High. She stated that, “Mrs. Brazil and Mrs. Ruelas encouraged me to go back to school and get a teaching degree.” Jimenez’s favorite part about teaching is reading novels with her students. Her favorite lessons to teach are “Socratic Seminars”. She loves how it is a big class discussion and how every student has their own opinion and reasoning. Jimenez loves being an English teacher as she loves reading and grading essays. If she was not a teacher, she claimed she would be a baker of some sort. Jimenez’s goal for her students by the end of the school year is to be confident enough to either go into the workforce or higher education.
Jimenez’s way to adapt with students who have special needs is to figure out their needs and try to help them based on that. Her way to deal with classroom discipline is to be honest and communicate with the class. When there is a conflict between students in a classroom, Jimenez tries to just separate them across the classroom so there are not any issues. When she sees a student struggling, she tries to communicate with them and encourage them to do their best. Her way to deal with stress is to not worry about work when she is at home and focus on her personal life. Jimenez’s advice for someone who would like to become a teacher is to not hold grudges. She stated, “Everyday is a fresh start, don’t hold a grudge against someone for a mistake.” Jimenez’s favorite memory here at Hughson High is when she did the worm at the welcome rally.
