Welcome to week one of “In The Dugout” where the three of us will talk about the outcome and give you an in-game view of Hughson Husky varsity baseball. Today we will be talking about our first scrimmage game against the Pacheco Cougars.
Landon Peterson: Winter has officially come to an end and everyone was excited to finally face off against another team. Today’s opponent will be the Pacheco Cougars and even though this game was just a scrimmage, it felt like opening day. Even in the pregame warm-ups it was clear that we were the better team. In and out was clean even for the first time and you could just tell it was going to be a great game. Max Mankins would start on the mound and come out a little slow letting a few runners aboard and giving up a big hit to the number three hitter but ultimately he escaped the jam and got our hitters to the plate. After two early outs by the top of the lineup momentum quickly shifted into our favor after Carlos Guizar hit a soaring home run to left-center field to give the team an early lead. After putting up a few runs the side was retired and we were back on defense. This inning went quick for Pacheco after Mankins began to lock in, putting away the middle of their order with ease and got us back in the dugout to hit.
Bryce McDaniel: As all of the winter sports come to an end the spring sports seasons are coming to a start. My spring sport is baseball and our first scrimmage was against the Pacheco Cougars. We started the game with Max on the bump and only planned to have him go 2 innings, during his first inning there was only one ball that had come to the outfield. This was the only ball I saw while I was out there because our pitching was locked in the whole game. On this offense side our hitting started off strong as Carlos Guizar hit a 2 run home run in the bottom of the first. A few hitters later I came up and hit a double to the right center gap. I had 3 more at-bats this game and had one strikeout, a lineout to center, and then another double to the right center gap. It felt like the game was a one siding show the whole time cause they couldn’t get anything going on their offense. Now we are preparing for our first pre-season games that are coming up next week.
Gavin Gomez: This was a very good way to start the season off, we got some quality reps on the field and at the plate. The team worked very hard in the months prior all leading up to this game and it showed. The game was a blowout from the beginning, you can tell that we were so much better than Pacheco it wasn’t even a competition. The pitchers were very dominant and we were getting hits after hits. I can’t wait for the rest of the season because its gonna be a good one.
