Bryce- The second week of the season came to a start on the road against El Cap. This was the first away game of the season so we had to get used to riding the bus and playing in the game. The first 4 innings went by really fast with our pitcher Benji shutting them down and their pitcher giving us some trouble at the start. They had scored the first run in the bottom of the 4th with a base hit but that was their last score of the game. As we came up to the plate in the top of the 5th we knew we had to score to win the game so we rallied together and put up 2 runs. At the plate during my at bat I went up waiting for a fastball to hit but I ended up getting walked on 4 pitches. The whole 6th inning was very quiet with Benji shutting them down. As the 7th inning came up we wanted to put some more insurance runs up to make it hard for them to catch up. We started that inning with some good hits to drive in 2 more runs and then I came up with my same approach but I ended up walking on 4 pitches again. In the bottom of the 7th our closer Dominic came in and sat them down so we could come out victorious 4-1.
Gavin- The game against El Cap was a good one, It was our first away game of the season and we didn’t disappoint with a hard fought 4-1 win. From the start of the game we could tell that El Caps pitchers were better than what we have seen in the past 3 games but we did not let it get to us even though we had several strikeouts we got the important hits when it mattered. It was definitely more of a defensive type of game and we showed that making no errors while the Gauchos had 5, them making all those errors really got us going and gave us some good At bats. Benji Ocegueda really locked in this game having one of the best outing ive ever seen out of him and I’m happy to have such a dominant pitcher against the several good teams we are gonna play against for the rest of the season. The mix of good pitching and shut down defense really set us up for the nice win even if the bats weren’t that hot. It shows that defense is just as important and maybe more important as offense.
Landon- This game started off slower than usual, since it was our first away game we were still adjusting to the bus ride and new environment as a team. The dugout was amazing though, along with the field as well. Throughout the early stages of the game little to no runs were scored and the dugout didn’t have much to cheer about. There were lots of strikeouts in this game which was a little abnormal for us but after cutting down swings and focusing on getting to the next batter we finally wore them down and began to break the game open. I was put in to pinch run for Beau at second base and scored after Carlos hit a sharp single up the middle. During the later stages of the game the dugout was going crazy and the environment was awesome which took a big part of the win. We brought home our 4th win of the season thanks to great pitching from Benji Ocegueda and small ball bringing home some big runs late.
