This Friday, March 7th, the Hughson Huskies will be hosting and competing in the Stanislaus County Championships. This track meet has teams from California’s Stanislaus country go head to head and compete with one another. Teams such as Ceres, Patterson, Central Valley, Oakdale, Orestimba, and many more within the area. This meet contains all the major events, from 100m to the 3200m, 100m to the 300m hurdles, 4x100m, 4x400m, 4x800m, and all of the field events.
The top 2 athletes in each event from every school are participating. And the winners of these events, as well as the champion team, will be considered the best in the county. Senior athlete Adrian Andrade said, “I am looking forward to this meet because it would be the first time I run a 400 this season. I’m not afraid to run against anybody in the 400m because it’s my event. I do feel the nerves a bit at the start, but once the race begins, I am confident I will do well against my opponents.” Showing confidence and heart coming into this meet is what a top athlete needs to do. Although this is their second, if not first meet of the year, Hughson athletes are positive and looking forward to compete against the best in the county. They get the opportunity to represent their school in a large meet, and maybe get scouted by college recruiters.
For those other athletes not participating, they get one to two weeks to prepare for the next Huskies track & field competition, on March 14th for Freshman and Sophomores, or the Friday after that for everyone else. For all athletes participating in the county Championships, good luck!
