It has been five years since the Covid pandemic started, this was a pandemic because of the very fast spread of the virus and turned into a long over a year pandemic. Covid came to the US in early 2020 and it was scary for me and my friends and even family because we were hearing what this virus can do.
Covid changed a lot of lives. I remember being in a quarantine lockdown and because of this, for example, we had a different work life and even school life. I can assume that the teachers that still had to go into work were more depressed and bored. During this time for me it was weird because I talked through a microphone and had cameras and this was all new to everyone.
Covid has definitely affected social life because it had everyone in a lockdown. A Lot of people were scared because people were passing away because of Covid 19. This affected me because I would stay home a lot, only talking to my family and hadn’t spoken to any of my friends. I was in 6th grade when the pandemic hit, the pandemic first hit they gave us two weeks off of school, that two weeks then turned into a month, then to a year. All of this made us start online classes and they were boring and a lot of people would just cheat.
Covid 19 lockdown had some pros and cons. One of the pros was working from home and being able to see your family more and having more time to spend with kids. Another pro is it taught a lot of people to be mindful and considerate when they’re not feeling well.
One of the cons was that this affected the students’ learning by disrupting it. Another con was that everything was depressing and everyone had masks on. The last con was being unable to go outside shopping for clothes or groceries.
Regardless of how unserious people took Covid, there were a lot of deaths and hospitalizations during this time, especially elderly people. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an estimated 1.2- 1.3 million deaths in the United States of America. The rate of death for elderly people was 97 times higher than those who were younger between 18-29 years of age.
Covid was a difficult time for everyone and they all had their stress and things to worry about. There were a lot of bad things, but there were also good things like spending time with family. A con being that outside life was depressing. The quarantine lockdown kept a lot of people in their houses everyday to prevent sickness and spreading of the virus. Schools were shut down and had to go completely online, making it hard for students to learn.
