This Friday, March 14th, is the annual Frosh Soph Showcase. Located here at Hughson High, this meet allows teams to showcase their young talent. The underclassmen get the opportunity to compete against one another, more fairly then it would be if a freshmen had to compete against a senior. This is one meet of the season that lets the youth shine. There will be all of the events, from 100m to 3200m, 100mh to 300mh, 4x100m to 4x800m relay, and all of the field events.
Schools from Ceres, Modesto, to Merced, and teams like Oakdale & Summerville will be in attendance. Meaning that whoever wins their event could say that they are the best freshman/sophomore in the area. Meets like this are always competitive, there are underclassmen records that are itching to be broken by many athletes. I don’t doubt that we’ll see a couple meet records and many personal records. A few schools have youth track programs in their town or city, which produce very talented young athletes. This is favorable for the high school teams in this meet, and overall. These athletes will be even closer to breaking these underclassmen records. The only thing that could prevent this would be the weather. Lately, it has been cloudy, rainy, and depressing. This can affect athletes performance physically and mentally. We can only wish for the best weather, a nice, cool, and clear day.
Considering upperclassmen and other athletes unable to participate in this meet, their will be a meet in Manteca the following day, Saturday. So don’t worry if you don’t get to participate, there are still many more track meets to come. For those competing on both Friday & Saturday, go out there and try your best. Good luck!
