I hadn’t baked in five years. That was true, till I found a recipe that looked delightful. So then, on one random night, I discovered how to make the best chocolate chip cookies.
I was craving sweets, and cookies were the first thing that came to mind. It was around ten o’clock at night, and I searched the internet for the best recipe. I ended up on reddit, of course, and found the recipe that appealed to me most. It wasn’t just any regular chocolate chip cookies that I found, but they were brown butter chocolate chip cookies. The sound of them resonated with me, so I knew I had to make them.
They were relatively easy to make, but made me feel like a skilled baker by the end of the process. The brown butter heightened the flavor by miles, and I refuse to make chocolate chip cookies now any other way. I have made them at least five times by now, whether that be for family, friends, or classmates. They can all agree that these cookies are to die for. For example, I made them only once for my brother, and now he asks me to make them for him every time I see him. He lives across the country currently, but is determined to convince me to go through the mailing process in order to get his hands on these cookies.
Ingredients
1 cup salted butter
1 cup light brown sugar
½ cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon coarse sea salt
2 ½ cups all purpose flour
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Directions
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and bring it to a boil. Once it starts boiling, stir constantly until the butter is out of the foamy phase and becomes an amber color.
- Remove from heat, and allow it to cool for 20 minutes.
- While the butter is cooling down, preheat the oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil and set aside.
- Add granulated sugar, light brown sugar, vanilla extract, baking soda, eggs, and salt into a large mixing bowl. Add the cooled butter and stir to combine using a rubber spatula.
- Stir in the flour until the dough is well combined and the ingredients are evenly distributed.
- Finally, mix in the chocolate chips.
- Use a large cookie scoop (about 3 tablespoons), scoop the dough onto the baking sheet, making sure they are about 2 inches apart.
- Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes until they are golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and allow them to cool completely.
- Sprinkle a small amount of flaked sea salt on top if desired.
