Sprints and relays are immediately what you think about when you hear track. These two events are the main ones people watch, since it’s just a battle of who runs faster. Sprints make up most of track as there’s a lot of sprinting events which also include relays. Tons of people mostly go for sprinting events since they want to challenge themselves to see if they can get first or place second, or third.
Sprints are the most competitive event in track, as well as the other ones which are also competitive. There can be long sprints which are the 800 and the 400. Or you can do short sprints which are like 100, and 200. Both are still really fun and could bring a challenge towards what you decide to do. Sprints are meant to be fast and could do you great if you’re already a really fast runner and sprinter.
Relays are another competitive and challenging event in track. Some people may not like relays due to how much pressure it is to hold the baton. Even though it’s played with a team and a baton, it’s still the same as a normal sprint just with 3 other people also running the same distance that you are running. Relays are very stressful as you have to not drop and pass the baton to your other team members. If you do drop it then your teammates and you would be disqualified out of the race. Which is why some people don’t like to do relays due to not wanting to drop it.
These two events make up some of the biggest events in track and field. And they are really fun to watch, as the competition is very high for these events. Loads of people sign up and realize that they do love and want to continue to do track. So if you’re already a fast and good runner, encourage yourself to do track and start running!
