“Sports depression is way worse than love, you don’t lose someone, you lose yourself.” Trying to prove yourself at your sport constantly as if it is the only thing you are good enough for. Losing the motivation of not only yourself but everyone around you. You look down on yourself while everyone else counts on you to be something through this sport. As this sport defines you as a person. Trying to balance everything in your life all at once while not being there physically or mentally but putting your all into nothing for no progress. The feeling of never being enough in the back of your mind everyday you wake up hoping that you will make it. You lose yourself as a person and lose the ones around you. Pouring everything into the game, sacrificing your time, energy, and even the ones you love, only to feel like you’re never quite good enough. Every mistake, every lost game, feels like a reminder that your best will never measure up to the expectations you’ve set for yourself. You train tirelessly, pouring your heart into every practice, yet the harder you push, the more you feel like you’re slipping away. You watch others succeed while you’re trapped, never being enough, questioning if all the sacrifices were worth it. The joy that once came from the sport slowly fades away, replaced by disappointment that is always there. It’s like being trapped in a world where success is only measured by your worth, and with every failure you experience, you can feel yourself slipping further away from who you used to be as a person. The passion you had for the sport feels like a weight dragging you down feeling tired all the time, leaving you feeling if you’ll ever find your way back to the love of the game- or to yourself.
