Gavin- The Game against our rivals was a good one, It didn’t start off too good, it was really slow and we didn’t score until the 5th inning. But after that boy did we lock in, with Isaac L really coming in clutch with 2 hits and 4 RBI. We couldn’t have done it without him. Game 2 was a whole different story. We didn’t wait till late in the game to score and started off hot. We absolutely destroyed them to the point where they tried to steal our signs to even have a chance. Escalon is done and we have one more team to destroy HILMAR!
Bryce- Finally, the game we have been waiting for since last year after they defeated us on our home field and took away our undefeated season. The game started fast as both teams were having productive outs at the plate every inning. Our starting pitcher Max Mankins threw the CG with only allowing 1 hit and had only 1 walk, he was very dominant on the mound. At the plate we had some good approaches that led to some long at bats. The game was a fun one and we came out on top 6-1 with another league victory. On Friday we played them again however this game started differently with both teams getting on base right away and Escalon scoring first off a 2 run home run. However we kept hitting the ball hard and then it started to fall and we scored 4 runs in the second inning and then another 9 runs in the 6 inning. We came out of this game victorious as well with a 13-4 win sweeping the Escalon Cougars.
Landon- The home rivalry game versus Escalon was very highly awaited from many of the returning players and even some of the new ones. After the upset from last season, everyone knew that this wasn’t a game to take lightly. Regardless of the stats making it look like a one sided game, we knew it would be a battle and it definitely was. At least for the first couple innings the score remained 0-0 and there were no hits posted by either team despite the amount of loud contact. Finally, in the bottom of the fifth Isaac Lupercio continued to stay hot, knocking one into the outfield for a two run base hit. He went on to finish with four runs batted in on the day. We continued to tag on a few more and by the end of the sixth the damage was limited to six runs. Despite giving up a home run off the scoreboard in the top of the seventh to lose the shutout and no hitter, Max Mankins had a great day posting just one earned run in seven innings on the hill. It was a little unusual for him to only fan two batters on the day but he kept the pitch count down and walked just one Cougar. The series will close on Friday at Escalon High school with Benji Ocegueda taking the mound for Hughson and the Cougars ace Josh Fiori representing Escalon.
