On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, the Hughson Varsity Girls Flag Football team lost their game against Ceres High School by a score of 13-34. Ceres started the game by scoring 2 touchdowns, while Hughson was trying to catch up on defense. However, Hughson did get two touchdowns in the second half. As soon as they got their momentum back, Ceres came back even stronger, scoring even more. Even though they were losing, the athletes were still trying their hardest, and not giving up.
Leah Hobby, class of 2026, is the starting quarterback for Hughson. “So far this season, Hobby has been our MVP, and the stats prove it,” says teammate Emma Carne, who is currently out with an injury.
Alongside Hobby, Keylee Lundquist, class of 2027, plays both running back and receiver. Carne praised her efforts, saying, “Since our star player, Presley Wells, is out, Lundquist has really stepped up to lead the team. She is not only a great athlete, but has a great personality and is always willing to help.”
On the opposing side, Ceres’s MVP is Lily Staggs, class of 2026. So far this preseason, she has scored 20 points, has 1 assist, and is averaging 100 ft per game. “Seeing these stats, I think that she is going to be a foundation player and really set the tone for the season,” stated Carne.
Overall, Hughson has a strong team with talented athletes. Once they pull everything together, the Huskies have the potential to be unstoppable once again.
