On the evening of Tuesday, September 1st, Hughson hosted the Summerville Bears for a pre-season Varsity Girls Volleyball game. The Lady Huskies came out strong, winning in three straight sets: 25–5, 25–17, and 25–14. This victory extended their preseason record to 8–1.
When asked what she took away from the game, junior standout Paisley Peterson shared, “One thing I’d take away from this game and improve on would be to place the ball in spots, and to be effective while hitting, instead of just swinging.”
The Varsity Lady Huskies are currently ranked 41st in California, according to MaxPreps. Their win over Summerville showed off the team’s depth and talent as they prepare for league play. This season also marks the arrival of new head coach Sarah Beers, who looks to guide the team toward even greater success by pushing the players to reach their full potential and expand their knowledge of the game. The team also welcomed four freshmen—Addison Yarbrough, Avery Harp, Lucy Daniels, and Chloe Beers—who have already proven to be valuable additions to the roster.
One player who stood out in Tuesday’s match was junior Paisley Peterson. A Varsity player since her freshman year, Peterson has earned a reputation as an outstanding opposite and outside hitter. During the 2024–2025 season, she recorded 125 kills and 95 blocks while playing in the front row. She is ranked 31st in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV, 22nd in the Trans Valley League, and her kills place her 18th in the league overall. Against Summerville, Peterson led the Huskies with the most kills and blocks, helping secure the win.
Peterson reflected on both her performance and her goals for the season: “I’d say my personal highlight from the game was my free ball play that ended in a kill. From the team overall, today, I think we can improve on communication on the court. My hopes for this season are to be more of a leader on the court and to make our team and program more unified.”
