The Hughson High Bass Fishing Club has been a great way to bring people together and create lifelong memories. “The club started about 7 years ago,” says Bailey Peters, a 4-year member of the Fishing Club. Peters also said, “Over the years, it has gotten so much better and grown a ton. Our Anglers these past few years have been so determined to get out on the water and compete to be the best.” Logan Dekleva and Landon Mason have qualified for nationals three years in a row and succeeded every time. According to Peters, “Since they have done so greatly these past few years, there are some high expectations for this year. One is for the Anglers to win Angler of the Year again. Another is to make it in the top 3 teams to compete at nationals for the 4th year in a row.”
The club offers students opportunities that go beyond just learning how to fish. According to Peters, the club provides both valuable experience and lasting friendships. “One thing people should know about the club is that you can get scholarships.” Peters explained. “Another thing people should be informed of is that you make so many new friendships with kids all around locally, or even make it to nationals and meet so many new people there.” Other than just being able to make new friends and being able to earn scholarships, students develop skills that extend into everyday life. Peters stated, “People should join this club because it teaches you many responsibilities. You’re always learning tips and tricks, and really, it’s an amazing experience being out on the water with your friends from all around, once or a few times a month.” The Hughson High Bass Fishing club is a great club to join, and it offers so many opportunities.
