With Homecoming right around the corner, all of the students are very excited! This year’s class of 2028 homecoming court includes: Caleb Absher, Carter Clawson, Noah Franco, Maddox Gregario, Lily Duke, Brooklyn Foss, Mariah Ruiz, and Harley Wells.
I sat down and interviewed all of them to hear how they are feeling about their surprises and what they are most excited about.
I asked how it felt to be nominated and Ruiz said, “I feel really honored to be nominated. It means a lot knowing my classmates chose me and thought of me, so I’m very grateful for that.”
Clawson agreed and also said, ¨I feel very grateful, appreciative, excited, and proud of myself from where I used to be. I have become more confident, which is a huge accomplishment, and I’m just grateful people voted for me! I came from a very small school and didn’t have many friends. I was also very quiet and not social. So being voted for homecoming really boosts my confidence, self-esteem, and I feel very cared for.¨
For some, being voted for was a complete surprise. Absher said, “I’m new to this school this year, so I didn’t think I would get nominated. But I am still very grateful and excited.”
Franco agreed when he said, “It was a complete surprise. When we were voting, I had no clue that the people around me wanted me to be a part of the homecoming court.”
When asked what they were most excited about, the answer was mostly the whole entire experience. Duke said, “I’m mostly excited for being a part of the whole experience, like being able to run with my friends and the preparation and everything. One thing I’m mostly excited for is to go dress shopping, I just think that is such a big part of the fun for me!”
The voting process brought mixed emotions and excitement for the students. Foss said, “It was a complete surprise. I didn’t expect to be nominated at all, but it feels good to know that people thought of me.”
Gregario shared, ¨I did want to be voted for, but I definitely was not expecting to actually get it. I am, however, grateful and very glad that I was nominated and I hope I win!¨
We all know we are waiting for the moment that they announce the winners, but what will be the winners’ reaction? Wells joked, “I think I will set off fireworks and have an airplane fly by with a sign, but on a real note, I will be very grateful and super excited.”
Whether they win or not, all of the nominees agreed that being recognized by their classmates is an honor and that they are beyond grateful, no matter what.
