Sadie Petersen, an FFA student, is entering her second year of FFA as a sophomore. Last season, she entered the fair with her heifer, Coco. Petersen has participated in agricultural programs, such as 4-H, for about three years. She plans on continuing in FFA throughout her high school career. Along with participating in agriculture, she also plays tennis and golf.
I asked Sadie about what usually goes on during a week at the fair. “A fair week usually starts by waking up at 5:00 in the morning to call your cow out, and then you get her to the fair and get her all settled in, and then you show two times in the one week you’re there.” Later on, Sadie said, “I made around $7,250 for my replacement head for this year, and I hope to make more next year.” Petersen explained to me just how much she loved her animals and how she loves the fact that they can go from not trusting you at all to becoming excited to see you.
One of Sadie’s close friends, Natalie Sousa, says, “Sadie is the funniest person I know. Every time I’m around her, I’m having the best time ever. I’ve never met anyone with as much energy and love as Sadie, and she’s so willing to share that love with the people around her.” Another one of Petersen’s fellow FFA members, Emma Boyd, says, “She makes the FFA experience very joyful, and she lights up every room when she walks in, while also being very professional.”
We are so excited to see what the rest of Sadie’s FFA and agriculture journey brings through her next few years at Hughson High School!
