For Hughson FFA member Grace Curry, agriculture has always been a way of life.
“I grew up in the Ag Industry and showed pigs my entire life, so FFA was just a right of passage for me,” Curry said. Even so, she credits her freshman Ag teacher with sparking her deeper involvement. “Mrs. Larson is the one who pushed me to get so involved. If she hadn’t believed in me, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
Family has also played an important role in Curry’s journey. “My dad’s work ethic and love for the Ag Industry inspires me every day, and my mom is someone I can go to for advice,” she said. “Both push me to be the best person I possibly can be, and they’re people I strive to be like.”
That support, paired with her experiences in FFA, has helped shape her confidence. Once extremely shy, Curry has grown into someone who can easily communicate and connect with others. Fellow member Ivorey Moffatt described her as “a very nice and helpful person in and out of the show ring.”
Now serving as Hughson FFA’s Vice President, Curry says communication has become her strongest skill. “Not only do I get to be a positive voice for the industry that feeds the world, but I also have the opportunity to be a leader and inspire more students my age to get involved in FFA,” she said.
Looking ahead, Curry plans to compete in collegiate livestock judging and study agriculture communications and policy. “After college, I see myself being an advocate for the industry, and FFA is definitely to thank for that,” she said.
When asked about her favorite memory, one moment stood out. “Winning the Livestock Judging State Final contest will always be my favorite,” Curry recalled. After two years of hard work, her team’s efforts finally paid off, and the feeling of accomplishment is something she says she will never forget.
As her senior year begins to wind down, Curry looks forward to the opportunities ahead and is excited to see how far she will go in her agricultural career.
