When Kate Cooper first signed up for an ag class, it was simply because her friends were doing it. What started as a way to stay involved quickly became much more. “Originally, I just took an ag class because that was what my friends were doing. Throughout many competitions, I developed an appreciation for agriculture and a love for public speaking, inspiring me to remain involved in this organization,” Cooper said. Meeting strong role models, like past Central Region President Dawson Donich, pushed her to grow outside of her comfort zone. “He encouraged me to get more involved… Now my goal is to make people feel seen the same way Dawson made me feel seen,” Cooper stated.
Throughout her FFA journey, she says she has transformed as both a leader and a person. “My freshman year, I was lost… FFA quickly became my home and allowed me to connect with others while finding my passion, agricultural advocacy,” she said. Along the way, she has learned resilience, humility, and the value of service. Student Ivorey Moffatt says, “Kate is very nice and always willing to help those around her.” From public speaking to food drives to working backstage at Turlock Youth Performing Arts, she has found purpose in giving back.
The experience has also given her unforgettable memories, like when Hughson FFA was named the 2025 California State Champion Livestock Judging Team. After choosing to skip prom to compete, she remembers the emotion clearly. “I will never forget hearing the second through fifth place teams… and realizing that Hughson FFA had won. Our team ran together into one big group hug and there were so many emotions in that moment. That is a core memory, for sure,” Cooper said.
As Kate Cooper’s senior year continues, she leaves behind a lasting mark on Hughson FFA—from discovering her passion for agricultural advocacy to helping lead her team to a state championship. Looking ahead, she hopes to earn a degree in Ag Communications and Ag Business before becoming an agricultural lawyer and advocate. For students thinking about joining FFA, her advice is simple: “Do it, involve yourself. FFA is for everyone. It is not just about farming; it is about tomorrow’s leaders.”
