On September 29th, the Hughson Girls Golf team brought ten players to the Hilmar Tournament at Turlock Country Club. They competed as two teams: Hughson Black—made up of Madden Nobles, Mia Mateo, Kelsey Brower, Kali Irizarry, and Ava O’Hara—and Hughson Gold, which included Sophiia Spears, Sadie Petersen, Katelynn Loveland, Channing Coonce, and Victoria Cribbet.
The tournament format paired each player with three others from different schools. Each golfer competed based on their seed, contributing to their school’s overall standings. The event began around 11:00 a.m. and wrapped up at about 5:00 p.m.
When the team arrived, they warmed up at the driving range before practicing in the sand pits and on the putting greens.
Reflecting on the day, Madden Nobles shared, “The tournament went pretty well. I was up in the top five throughout most of the round, and right at the end, I got a bogey that put me in sixth. I’m not too upset because that was my best score on 18 holes this year, but it also makes me excited because I know I can shoot better next time I play.”
Throughout the day, each player made their way through the course, gaining valuable experience to prepare for the end-of-season tournament in the coming weeks. Both teams performed exceptionally well—Hughson Black placed 9th, and Hughson Gold placed 17th out of twenty-two teams.
