The Hughson Huskies faced off against the Orestimba Warriors in what turned out to be one of the longest games of the season, ending with a 38-13 victory for the Huskies. What began as a highly anticipated homecoming night quickly turned into a game of patience, perseverance and teamwork.
Before kickoff, the Homecoming Royalty Ceremony took place early due to lighting issues that delayed the start of the game. Junior winners Nathan Castro and Layla Fiorini proudly represented their class, while seniors Tristan Benham and Sophia Benham were crowned Senior Royalty. The celebration set the stage for an exciting night of football.
After a long delay caused by lighting problems, the game finally began around 8:45-9:00 p.m. The Huskies wasted no time making an impact, scoring three touchdowns within the first three minutes of the opening quarter. The energy in the stands was electric, with the students section dressed head-to-toe in the black and gold theme, cheering loudly for their team.
Orestimba managed to find the end zone later in the game, but Hughson maintained full control on both sides of the ball. Unfortunately, during the third quarter, the game was paused again when Hughson player, Gage Hartgrove suffered an injury on the field. Players, coaches, and fans from both teams came together in support, sending thoughts and prayers for his recovery.
After play resumed, fatigue began to set in for both teams and fans. By 11 p.m., the stands on both sides had begun to thin out as the game stretched late into the night. Finally, at around 12:03 a.m., the clock hit zero with Hughson securing a 38-13 win.
Though it was a long night for everyone involved, the Huskies once again showed resilience and dominance. Between the homecoming celebration, delays, and late-night finish, this game will certainly be one to remember for the Hughson fans.
