Fredy Castaneda: What was the scariest moment in your life?

Mr. Bland: When I was a senior in college, I went to Somalia…but my scary moment started before I even landed. When I went to the plane to leave, they said they didn’t have a seat for me and I got freaked out.  The decisions after that, to get the seat, were the scary part!

 

Fredy Castaneda: Do you do photography outside of school?

Mr. Bland: Yes, I love to do long term documentary projects and I gravitate towards topics of poverty and social class.

 

Fredy Castaneda: What is something you can tell your students?

Mr. Bland: Just to keep shooting 

 

Fredy Castaneda: What is your favorite moment in photography?

Mr. Bland: When I found out my photos inspired others

 

Fredy Castaneda: What inspired you to be a photography teacher?

Mr. Bland: My fascination for it

Mr. Bland: Wooden Spoons

 

Fredy Castaneda: What cartoon do you still watch to this day?

Mr. Bland: Robo Tech & Old X Men

 

Fredy Castaneda: What do you miss most about being a kid?

Mr. Bland: The absence of responsibilities

 

Fredy Castaneda: You used to be a journalist, how was working in journalism?

Mr. Bland: It was really fun. I was never really in office because I was always in the field getting pictures

 

Fredy Castaneda: What has been the hardest moment in teaching photography?

Mr. Bland: My first two years of teaching I had a darkroom and a classroom, so managing both the darkroom and the classroom was the hardest moment
