February 23, 2022
The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin might be starting a war with Ukraine. It has been stated by Chief Sergei Naryshkin, the Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service since 2016, “Russia does not have any plans to start a war,” however NATO’s (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) Secretary General warn the risk of conflict is very real and an estimated 100,000 troops have been deployed close to Ukraine’s border by Russia. Putin has admitted that they want to make sure Ukraine will not join NATO, an organization that has the aim of guaranteeing the freedom and security of its members through political and military means. As stated by the BBC “In President Putin’s eyes, the West promised back in 1990 that NATO would expand not an inch to the east but did so anyway.” Many countries have contributed to helping Ukraine. The U.S. has sent around 8,000 troops and NATO has sent advisers, weapons, and field hospitals and has said they plan not to send troops.
