Husky in the Hot Seat:Mrs. Compton

Hailey Dimter, Staff Writer

Hailey: What’s your name and What do you teach?

Ms.Compton: Jamie Compton, Math 1 and Consumer Math

Hailey: A little bit about you?

Ms.Compton: I graduated from Highschool in 1994 and said I will never be back. Jokes on me – 5 years later I was back teaching Math. It was really weird at first teaching with the teachers who had taught me. I was never able to call Ms. Davis (old principle) by her first name. I love living and teaching in my hometown. I love seeing the generations of students come through.

Hailey: How long have you taught at Hughson High?

Ms.Compton: 21 years. My first year was at Denair Junior High School

Hailey: Was your plan after highschool, always to become a Teacher?

Ms.Compton: I actually started college to become a Large Animal Veterinarian. That’s where I started taking all the upper Math and Science classes. After completing a couple years I changed my major to Accounting and finished college at CSU Stanislaus with a BS in Accounting. My last year at CSU Stanislaus I spent teaching the classes for my professors and found I really enjoyed teaching. I went into the credential program to become a Business Teacher. While in the Teaching Program at CSU Stanislaus, Denair hired me to teach Math. I took and passed the Praxis Test for a full credential in teaching Math and here I am.

Hailey: Who is someone who has positively impacted your life(role model)?

Ms.Compton: My sister Joy Compton. My sister was an amazing student at Hughson and went on to become a Missionary Teacher in Africa. She is always striving to give her students the most amazing classroom and learning experiences. Her example of a teacher encourages me to constantly try harder in my own classroom.

Hailey: What is your favorite part about your job?

Ms.Compton: The students. They make me smile everyday.

Hailey: What do you love most about this school staff and students?

Ms.Compton:I love the small community and seeing students out in the community.

Hailey: If you could tell your students anything and hope it sticks and helps them, what would it be?

Ms.Compton: That this is a huge world with a ton of people in it. Don’t worry about the bad stuff happening now. Just keep your chin up, know that you are awesome the way you are, and just keep looking. Somewhere out there is your niche of people and you will find them. ALSO – Do your Math Homework!!!!

Hailey:  One of your favorite quotes?

Ms.Compton: A lack of preparation on your behalf does not necessitate an emergency on mine.

(Mr. Echols – Gratton school)

Hailey:Anything else you would like to share?

Ms.Compton :I’m a huge SciFi fan, I milk my own cow everyday and make homemade cheese. I don’t have Tik Tok, and I like to be awake by 5:00 am every morning.
