Hughson High’s New English Teacher: Mrs. Jimenez

Sophia Sanchez, Staff Writer

Jillian Jimenez is the newest addition to Hughson High School’s English department. Jimenez attended and graduated from Hughson High School in 2014. Jimenez teaches 10th and 12th grade English as well as Sports PE. After high school, she did not plan to become a teacher. Instead, she majored in Business Marketing in college and worked for Target as a Logistics Manager right out of college. She was coaching volleyball at the time and she really enjoyed teaching the kids and interacting with them, so she went back to school to be a teacher.

Someone who has a positive impact on her life is her dad, her dad did not have the best childhood growing up and not a lot of support. He managed to remain determined despite his circumstances and create a better future for not only himself but his children. He could have made all the excuses and no one would have blamed him. He taught her that you have control over your life and you are responsible for the decisions you make. No one else.

Jimenez is most excited this year is being involved outside of the classroom on campus. She believes that is what makes school fun for many students and allows her to get to know her students’ personalities and interests better. She coaches JV Volleyball and Freshman Basketball. She is also the Sophomore class adviser. Jimenez’s favorite part about her job is the discussions that she has in class with her students. No one’s class is ever the same because of the ideas and personalities in each class are different. Somethings to know about Jimenez is that she and her husband (Jonathan) enjoy being active and being outdoors. She loves to read and spend time with her two dogs Lucky (poodle mix) and Millie (English Bulldog).

If Jimenez could tell her students anything and hope it sticks it would be work hard and be nice to people. People might not remember what you said but they remember how you made them feel. They will also remember how hard you worked, not the excuses you made. One of her favorite quotes she lives by is, “In a world where you can be anything, BE KIND!”
