HHS Celebrates Red Ribbon Week

Lesly Avila-Rodriguez, Staff Writer

“Red Ribbon Week is a national week that focuses on drug free living and healthy lifestyles,” says Mrs. Ruelas, who coordinates the week for HHS. This year’s Red Ribbon Week occurs on October 24–28. Ruelas expresses that this is important to her because she came from a household that was surrounded by alcohol and drug abuse.

The dress-up days are as follows:

Monday – “wake up drug-free” – wear PJs

Tuesday – “friends don’t let friends do drugs”  – Twin Day

Wednesday – “proud to be drug-free” – Wear Red

Thursday – “Hugs not Drugs” – bring your favorite stuffed animal

Friday – “team up against drugs” – wear a jersey/sports gear

The message Ruelas wants to give to students with Red Ribbon Week is that the choices one makes today while they may seem harmless and just a one time thing compact over time and actually make a huge difference in the long term quality of life. Ruelas wants this year’s red ribbon week to be the biggest one yet! There are several activities to be expected throughout the week, there will be a drunk goggles obstacle course, and a bunch of classes will be running lessons relating to Red Ribbon Week.
