Seniors College Hunting Season is Coming Up!

College! That time comes around quicker than you think. When choosing a college there’s a lot to take into consideration. Location, cost, majoring options, sports teams, surrounding activities and much more. With those things in mind then comes living situations and who you want to dorm with or if you’re going to stay with your family. Those are some of the hardest decisions for a college student, and it takes an immense accumulation of time to plan out the next 6 months to possibly 5 years of your future.

When it comes to looking at colleges, most start their senior year. Some look specifically at the sports teams and some look specifically at the groups and opportunities. While others look just at academics and possible degrees and Bachelors. This scares many seniors as looking for colleges because it is a reminder of just how soon adulthood is gearing closer and closer, and reality starts to check in and things start to seem very real for most. This can be discouraging as well but to some it’s an encouragement to jump into it  to strive and persevere.

With these mindsets, college hunting can be difficult. Some have a set college that they’ve always dreamed of going to while others just go straight into a J.C. and plan as they go. This can be smart but also foolish. Being uneducated when it comes to applying for college can lead you into attending a college that has no benefit to you or your future. There are many ways to determine the best college fit for you. One said that “If I look at the cost first, most times it discourages me before I even get a chance to scope out the school and see my options.”

H.H.S. Paw Staff Member asked some Seniors around school what they thought was the best college fit for them and Here’s the results. 25 Students said that C.S.U. is the best fit for them and their future, 5 said that U.C. Davis is the best college. 10 said that C.I.T. is the best fit for them, 15 said that Cal Poly is the best, 12 said that U.H. of Texas is the best college choice for them and some said that a J.C., none in particular, would be best for them to gain experience. With this information Paw Staff concluded that C.S.U. is the most popular college choice, due to its above average acceptance and application rate along with the high level graduation rate. If  you are unsure H.H.S. Paw Staff Member thinks that C.S.U. is a good way to go if it lines up with your plans and future goals.
