Screams and Excitement Brought to Hughson High!
November 8, 2022
Entering October, all the students were excited for the end of the month to celebrate Halloween. During the week of Halloween, ASB got ready upstairs from the old gym and created an amazing haunted house for the students to enjoy and scream. Mrs. Ruelas, an English teacher and director of activities, quoted, “Last year I went up there and I saw a vision and thought it would make the coolest haunted house ever, and so then I asked Mr. Lighthall if we could transform it and he said yeah so I’ve been excited ever since.”
ASB took two weeks to set up the haunted house. ASB split into different groups and came up with different ideas to create unique, different rooms throughout the haunted house.
The first room based off of Stranger Things. When you walk in, you see a doll hung on the wall filled with webs and lights. You see tables, they start grabbing your ankles from underneath. A very scary creature with a white gown comes crawling out yelling from the dark.
The second room consists of a bridal suite. In the room, there is a bloody dress hung up with a skeleton wearing it. There are bloody hand prints all over the wall. Walking in, you will hear screaming and banging on the wall, there are a few jump scares.
The third room just consists of a creepy slamming door. When you walk in, they start banging on the door. Then, the door will slam and the actors will scream to scare you.
The fourth room is based off of The Ring movie. There is a little girl sitting on a chair with a onesie on while holding her doll. There are two other people standing in front of her and they just stare at you while you pass through the room.
The fifth room is a mad scientist lab. Walking in you’ll see very bloody chopped up body parts on a table and on the wall. You will hear screams and there will be people with hair in front of their face and in white gowns grabbing your arms while hurrying to exit the room.
The sixth room is the clown room. You will be put in the room with clowns while they look at you and hit metal bars with a bat. At the end of all the rooms, you must make your way back to the beginning and exit the haunted house.
Although the people that worked in the haunted house enjoyed it, there was a bad side to it as well. Sophia Pena, a sophomore, shared, “It was fun getting to scare the other students and hearing them scream, but the worst part of working at the haunted house was the really rude people that pushed, kicked and hit us while trying to scare them.”
Overall, the haunted house went well. Students loved it and got a good scare from it. Some students enjoyed it enough to pay another 3 dollars the days after they went to keep going through the haunted house. Mrs. Ruelas is excited to announce that there will be a haunted house again next year with new rooms and new scares for the students.
