Movie Review: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
March 10, 2023
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is an action movie produced by Marvel Studios and directed by Peyton Reed, it was released on February 17, 2023. Quantumania takes place after Infinity War, where Thanos snaps his fingers and half of Earth’s population disappears for 5 years, and with the defeat of Thanos, his army and Tony Stark’s sacrifice themselves in Endgame. There really aren’t any more dangers to protect people from, so Scott Lang (played by Paul Reed) writes and publishes a book about his adventures and duties as an avenger. His daughter, Cassandra Lang (Kathryn Newton) is upset at her father because how she sees it is: even though the world isn’t being controlled by aliens anymore, it doesn’t mean there isn’t any other way to help people like the people who lost their homes during the Blip. Cassandra and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) reveal a project they’ve been working on while Scott disappeared during the Blip. It was a machine that could send signals to the Quantum Universe to learn more about it.
In the previous movie Ant-Man and the Wasp, the old heroes Hank and Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) are on a mission, but during that mission Janet used herself as a sacrifice and disappeared by using the M.O.D.O.K, a tech prototype that uses Darren Cross’s (Correy Stoll) replication of Pym Particles to shrink herself small. When she shrank herself she was accidentally transported to the Quantum Realm, a universe beneath theirs. Whenever asked what was there and what she saw she would say there was nothing. But when Cassandra turned on the machine and revealed what it was used as, some sort of messenger, and sent a signal to the Quantum Universe she started panicking and disconnected the machine. That obviously didn’t work and so it opened a portal that sucked everyone into the quantum universe. Turns out Janet was lying and was hiding something really big and important that could potentially end their life and others.
I enjoyed this movie a lot. It was very funny and I liked how we got to see more characters in marvel that finally made their debut in the films. There’s still plenty of movies to come for sure since a lot of heroes and villains have not debuted in any new films. I especially liked when Scott finally understood what his daughter was trying to say and listened and helped others while stuck in the Quantum Realm. Just like other marvel movies, Quantumania should be watched after watching Ant-Man, Captain America: Civil War, Ant-man and the wasp, Avenger: Endgame in that same order to get the full experience of Ant-Mans and the Wasp’s story and the events that lead up to it.
