Have you ever wanted to take an AP class? Perhaps you were worried it would be difficult. Well, here is information you may find helpful in your decision.
The Advanced Placement program, also known as AP, was founded in 1952 and is now run by the College Board. With the inclusion of 34 different subjects, students can opt to take any subject that their school offers. College board states that ¨AP students are better prepared for college than students who don’t take AP, regardless of their exam score.¨ TeenLife also states that, ¨nearly 300,000 students with potential to succeed in AP classes graduate every year having never participated in a single course.¨
By taking an AP class, ¨students will learn higher level thinking skills that will help translate to success not only in high school but college,¨ says Mr. Kroll, the AP U.S History teacher here at Hughson, ¨they also learn time management which will benefit them greatly throughout life.¨ AP art history teacher Mr. Bland explains that students not only learn skills, they also learn ¨that there is no ONE way to be human. All of humanity is so interesting and beautiful.¨
This is only part of the amazing things students can learn in these AP courses. However, like many are concerned, AP classes are not easy. The AP teachers at Hughson High school say that the most difficult part of these classes is time commitment and the expectation to remember all the content taught in class. But, despite the difficulty in time management, says AP student Natalie Holly,̈ it is possible if you spend your time wisely.¨
At the end of the school year, in May, students that wish to get college credit can complete the AP test, despite its difficulty though, student Cailin Kelly says ¨I certainly feel more prepared for college level education.¨
So the decision is your own, will you take AP courses?
