With the 2023-2024 school year starting about three weeks ago, Hughson High School has had a few upgrades to their campus. This article will talk about what and why these improvements have moved onto the scene.
The first upgrade that has lasted since last school year was the new electric school buses. According to HughsonSchools.org,“While the diesel engines have a familiar roar – especially as the buses begin to move – the electric buses are quiet.” Making known that on the outside, the bus has not changed that much, but the upgrades to the bus are definitely for the greater good. Although the school still uses the old school buses from time to time, they use the newer electric school buses most of the time. As said by Tommy McCullough,“The new buses are way cleaner than the last ones.” The new buses allow the school to emit less CO2, and make the buses engine quieter, while keeping the original look of the iconic school bus.
An improvement that has happened within the recent school year, is the new fence around the front of the school perimeter. The fence stretches from room 10, all the way to reader hall. This fence also wraps around to the last fence near room 35. The fence keeps the students in school, while funneling the outsiders into the office. The fence has five openings to walk between outside and inside the school perimeter. The fence has also made visitors of the school find the office easier. The fence also has gates that sound an alarm when opened from the inside. This alarm allows the school to figure out when an event is happening instantly.
The next improvement to the school is an improved parking lot in the front of the school. This new parking lot has come with new paint, curbs, parking blocks, and trees, bringing a new type of liveliness to the school parking lot. The curbs have outlined the parking lot which arranges the parking area. While the parking lot is the new shiny item added to the school, the parking lot is exclusively for staff of the school. Although the parking lot is exclusive, the appeal has risen nonetheless.
The final improvement to the parking lot is an electric car charger to the right of the parking lot. This has helped staff with Teslas or electric cars to charge their cars while they are at school. Even though there are not that many electric cars pulling into the school parking lot, the accessibility is still noteworthy.
