When a new school year starts, the first thing most people look forward to is homecoming. One of Hughson High’s big traditions during homecoming is float building. Every year during the week of homecoming, students from every class participate in float building.
Mrs Ruelas, an English teacher at HHS, stated, “ Yeah I really like it, I love this job because I love watching how creative everyone is and how they can express themselves in so many different ways’’. With float building there are many challenges. Some of these challenges include, cheating, power tools, running out of supplies, and time. According to Savannah Fuller,’’A couple of worries I have is, the power tools because it’s the first year we are allowed to use them..”
Another student, Estefania Gutierrez stated, “Yeah, I’m not sure we will get it done on time.”
This year’s class themes are Lilo and Stitch, Toy Story, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Star Wars. In charge of Freshman’s float is, Priyana Prasad and Estephania Gutierrez. For Sophomores in charge of the float is, Megan Duke. For Juniors, Abby Winfrey and Emilie Peart, and for Seniors, Elise Swain. Float building can be fun and very social. As Maddison Barreta said, “Float building is very fun because it’s a wonderful way to be a part of the community and make a masterpiece to present in front of the town.”
