The HHS community is incredibly excited to welcome Mr. DJ Sexton into the teaching world. Though he may be new to the teaching world, he is not an unfamiliar face around campus, he has coached the high school football team for the last 8 years, and subbed around the school from 2021 to 2023. He was also a campus supervisor at Ross Middle School during the 2020-2021 school year.
Sexton was born and raised in the Hughson area and that caused his gravitation towards HHS. He wanted to become a teacher in order to be able to “positively influence the future generations.” Sexton added, “Ever since I started coaching right after higj school, I realized how much I loved teaching football. And then as a sub I realized that I actually enjoyed teaching anything/everything-just teaching in general! I really enjoy watching that ‘lightbulb’ moment when kids understand how specific moments or people in the past had a direct impact on the way they live today.”
What Mr. Sexton enjoys most about his new classroom is, “Without a doubt, the kids. They are always energetic and it really is a blessing to teach them all. I really appreciated how many kids actually want to learn about history.”
Sexton was influenced to become a teacher by many of his former teachers, but above all Mr. Kroll and Mrs. Ruelas. “Mr. Kroll taught me that history can be fun, and it can be very interesting to learn about new places and people. Mrs. Ruelas taught me about how to become a teacher, and has continued to show me new ways of teaching to help me be the best teacher I can be.” The entire staff and student body is very happy to give a warm welcome to Mr. Sexton!
