This year the Hughson High School Varsity football players are exceptionally good at their sport and many are wanting to continue playing in college. Several players have been scouted and have received scholarship offers from D1, D2, and D3 colleges.
Malakai Sumter is a Junior who plays Football, Basketball, and Track. Malakai was contacted by Sacramento State on November 28, 2022 stating that they were interested in him playing for their team. During the summer Sumter attended one of the schools football camp, then later in the summer the school took Malakai on a tour of their campus. The recruiting coordinator stated that they noticed Sumter had very good defense but they would see him being more effective on the offensive side. Sacramento State hopes to see how Sumter’s seasons goes.
David Delgado is a Senior who plays Football, Basketball, and Track. On Aug 28, 2023 the recruiting coordinator of Culver Stockton College reached out to Delgado. Delgado stated that the recruiting coordinator wanted to offer David a spot on their team and if he took it they would pay for half of his school tuition. Over the summer of David’s freshman year he went to one of Culvers camps. He attended the camp again over this past summer. In the email it was not stated what position Culver wanted him to play but David believes that he might be in a strong safety or outside backer position.
Robert McDaniel is a Junior who plays Football and Baseball here at HHS. On June 4, 2023 McDaniel went to Arkansas State’s football camp and he threw in front of the coach who was very much impressed by his performance. McDaniel was offered a full ride to play on their team. Arkansas is a Division 1 school, so the fact that he got the offer right at camp is very outstanding of Robert McDaniel. McDaniel received another full ride offer over a phone call from Toledo University on June 29, 2023. The head coach at Toledo saw film of McDaniel playing football and was immediately interested. Again this is very impressive of Robert because Toledo is also a Division 1 school and the coach just had to see some film of Robert to know that they wanted him on their team.
