October, it can be a spooky time of year. What do you think about in October: Halloween, candy, fall? It may be time to start thinking about this year’s SAT. The SAT takes place on October 11, 2023 this year. Get ready to find out more about this upcoming exam.

The SAT is a test comprising three portions: math, reading, and writing. Lasting three hours long, signing up requires the average cost of fifty-five dollars, sometimes slightly more. Based on a 200-800 point scale per section, the test has a total of 1600 points, however many of the students attain the average test score of 1060.

How do you study for the SAT? Well, to begin, it is important to know exactly what students struggle on most. Khan Academy mentions that the top three mistakes students make are using inefficient solving methods, misunderstanding the question, and trying to memorize everything. To help, Khan Academy devised a program that encompasses different questions,  giving early practice for the real test. In fact, they even have practice tests that students can take, and statistics from them that state the areas students struggle with most. Outside of this website, taking the PSAT is one of the best ways to prepare. The practice SAT can be taken within the school and if a student gets a bad score, they will have experience and do better on the next one. Conversely, getting a good score could grant scholarships and students could do better on the SAT.

Though not all colleges require taking the SAT, having it could potentially help students obtain scholarships and the acceptance of many colleges.

The purpose of this test is to measure the student’s readiness for college Princeton Review comments, and as such gives colleges the data on many students. If you are thinking of applying to a college or university, think about the SAT.
