Overall the Hughson Huskies had a really good season. The strongest attribute of the Hughson Huskies is their defense, specifically their defensive line and linebackers.
Friday, August 25th, the JV Hughson football team played Central Valley on their home field. Hughson won 21 – 7. It was the Hughson Huskies second game of the season, and they started the season with two wins. The Hughson Huskies JV team came out and showed everyone that they wanted to win. The Huskies defense was unmatched and carried their team throughout the game. The Hughson players felt they had an advantage being on their own field. According to Marshall Dayton, the Hughson Huskies JV quarterback, “the game went well, we won 21-7.” When asked if there was room for improvement Marshal said, “we need to work on catching and leading the wide receivers more.” Starting slot receiver Karsen Moore thought, “we got a big win 21-7, they were not that good.” However, Karsen thought the team could “do some work on finishing the end of the game harder.” The atmosphere of the student section for the Hughson Huskies was roaring, with people dressed up in red, white, and blue. Everyone was up on their feet while the band played a good beat. The students were ready for the Huskies to defeat Central Valley.
Friday, September 1st, the Hughson Huskies JV football team played Pitman on Turlock’s home field. The Hughson Huskies team won 14-13, it was their third game of the season. The Hughson Huskies JV team came out and showed everyone that they wanted this win. The Huskies defense was unmatched and carried their team throughout the game. The football players were very excited to be playing such a great team so early on in the season. According to the quarterback coach, Rich Berdion, “as a team we need to execute our plays, our line needs to push more on pulls to allow our quarterback more time in the pocket to make the right passes.” The Hughson Huskies starting defensive tackle, Luke Berdion, says “Our defense is really strong but our offense got blown up, we need more people rotating at quarterback and to be getting better throws.”
On Friday, September 8, the Hughson Huskies played the Downey Knights on our home field winning the game 34-20. It was their 4th game of the season, making the Hughson Huskies 4-0. The Hughson Huskies JV team came out and showed everyone that they wanted this win. The Huskies defense was unmatched and carried their team throughout the game. The football players felt that they had an advantage being on their own field. Starting outside linebacker Brandon Switzer said, “our defense really carried this game for us, but our offense needs a lot of work.” Overall a great game and season so far for the Hughson Huskies JV football team.
On Friday, September 15th, 2023 Hughson Huskies JV played Elite on their home field for their homecoming game. The Hughson Huskies JV team beat Elite 41-0 making them 5-0. The Hughson Huskies JV’s team has some of the best defense in our league with a very commendable offense. By the end of halftime the Hughson Huskies were winning 27-0. Starting quarterback and running back Brandon Switzer said “Our biggest problem is just working on the little things making sure we run our routes right, making sure the ball gets to the right person at the right time, and making sure that our team is communicating as they should be.” Starting defensive tackle Luke Berdion says, “By watching film we knew that they were not the best, all we needed to do was go in there try our best and keep good tempo, I think there’s always room for improvement but it’s hard to tell where to improve with a game with a team that bad.” The starting quarterback coach Rich Berdion said “The entire team did a good job. We just need to work on our communication and executing plays.”
The Hughson Huskies JV team has put in a lot of work and is steamrolling through all the competition.
