The start of the school year is always exciting and nerve-racking for many students. Along with this comes difficulty to get back into a routine of managing school work and other activities such as sports, clubs, and other extracurricular activities a student might have. Some students are thriving and are very organized, some procrastinate and end up stressing themselves out, some are burnt out, and some have piled too many responsibilities and are struggling. Each student differs in many ways.
Emma Holly is a Junior who plays tennis and is involved in CSF and NAMI. She stated that, “I end up procrastinating a lot, especially at the beginning of the year. This year I’m taking two AP courses and so the workload is definitely more than I expected. The first two or three weeks of school were especially stressful but lately I’ve been getting back into the swing of things and not procrastinating nearly as much. Even when I procrastinate though I tend to get the work done and pretty decently so my grades are pretty good either way.”
Abbe Stoneham is a Junior who is involved with NAMI. This year Stoneham is taking APUSH which is one of the hardest classes at Hughson High School. Abbe stated, “Academics this year have stressed me out more than the previous years. With more advanced classes and some just generally hard classes, it’s hard to manage it all. But I’ve survived this far and haven’t done awful.”
Savannah Fuller is a Junior who plays volleyball, basketball, and softball. Fuller is also very involved in ASB and Leadership at HHS. Savannah said,”My school academics are doing good. I am able to keep up with work while also being in sports. It’s been really easy for me to keep up.”
With all of Savannah’s sports and extracurricular activities she is a very busy person but as you can see she has managed to do an amazing job with keeping up with everything.
Kalinda Garcia is a Senior who is involved with GSA, NAMI, and Band Leadership. Garcia said, “Being a Senior who is involved with several clubs is very difficult, at times I get very unmotivated but then remember that this is my last year so I need to make it the best I can. I am doing well with my academics and I’m very proud of myself for how I have stayed on top of my school work while managing my extracurriculars. Overall I think that academic wise I have improved from my other years in high school.”
