Most people have heard that junior year is the hardest year in high school. With state testing, AP exams, harder classes, and looking at colleges it becomes very overwhelming. Everyone obviously has very different experiences and views of how school goes for them but it definitely has been agreed that junior year is the hardest year.
From personal experience I can definitely say that junior year has been a struggle. Taking AP classes has been okay so far but as the days go by the homework starts to pile up more and more. This year I decided to take anatomy to prepare myself for when I work in the medical field. Anatomy is for sure a more advanced class and it involves a lot of memorization. Besides my classes I have been struggling with finding out which college I want to go to. Along with school I play three sports. Trying to juggle getting as much practice as I can I also have to make time for homework. It has been a challenge to get my homework done after I come home from a long practice or a track meet. This year has been very strenuous on me but it has shown me what hard work and dedication can get you.
Abbe Stoneham is a junior at Hughson High School who is currently taking AP US History. Stoneham said, “junior year was easier than expected. Even if I had a lot of work, it was more of a time thing than the work. But it was fun as I got a lot more accomplished in school and life. The beginning was a little rocky, but I feel like every year starts off that way. It was a fun year as I got to do stuff I usually was too busy for.”
Savannah Fuller, another junior, stated, “I think my junior year has been pretty fun, with creating new friendships, winning TVL for basketball, and trying a new sport that I am pretty good at. The workload can get tough sometimes but I always manage to push through.”
Emma Holly is a junior involved in several AP classes. Holly said, “junior year has been really difficult for me, between my AP classes and trying to figure out what I wanna do in the future it’s been very stressful. Especially the second semester as AP exams and junior testing are coming up. The workload is a lot more than what I am used to as well. But besides the academic side, junior year has been really fun. I’ve made some new friends and we’ve been able to go more places together. Having that source of encouragement and diversions from school work has really helped me balance out my times. But overall, junior year has been stressful yet fun.”
