Subaru’s next generation of cars will use Advanced Micro Devices or AMDs for the next version of the company’s advanced driver assistance or ADAs vision system, EyeSight. The EyeSight system will be integrated into some Subaru models which will give them additional safety features such as Adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, as well as pre-collision braking. AMD said it expects Versal Series Gen 2 silicon samples to be available by the first half of 2025 followed by evaluation kits and System-on-Modules samples in mid-2025 then production silicon in late 2025. Subaru has not commented on the capabilities or the expected timing on specific features according to Repairer Driven News. Subaru believes this tech will help make the roads safer as they mentioned “Subaru Corporation, Subaru of America’s parent company, continues to enhance the active and passive safety performance of Subaru vehicles as part of its goal to achieve ‘zero fatal road accidents in 2030,”. Subaru has also said that “Enhancements to Subaru’s EyeSight technology are part of this effort.” Referring to their goal of zero fatal road accidents by 2030 also adding “Subaru’s EyeSight technology has long been recognized for its effective performance in preventing accidents.”
The EyeSight system was recently tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in which they tested 10 small SUVs and only the Subaru Forester, equipped with Subaru EyeSight Driver Assist Technology. According to repairerdrivennews.com the Subarus achieved the “ highest possible rating.” showing that this technology has the potential to massively increase the safety of drivers. A previous study also done by the IIHS showed that Subarus in the U.S. with the EyeSight system reduced rear-end crashes with injuries by up to 85%. Another study by Subaru based on data from Japan’s Institute for Traffic Accident Research and Data Analysis (ITARDA) has shown the accident rate of vehicles equipped with the technology is as low as 0.06% in Japan. AMD says that their newest device brings together pre-processing, AI inference and post-processing in a single device. Single chip intelligence is sought after because it will help eliminate the need for multi chip processing solutions resulting in less time being wasted and an overall more efficient chip.
AMD has also said they plan to give customers more options in various areas for their personal needs saying “customers can select the performance, power, and area footprints they want to achieve their particular application performance and safety target.”. These cars have been shown to be safer mainly because AI has a much better reaction time than humans. They will also be able to travel at higher speeds because of the superior reaction speed. However the price will be between 44-55 thousand dollars according to Subaru and unless you want to spend that much money on a car you will most likely have to wait a few more years for the technology to become both better and possibly cheaper.
