The Winter Olympics are over and now it’s time to recap! Norway took the most medals in the Olympics with a count of 41. The United States took 2nd with 33, and Italy had 3rd with 30. Norway won 18 gold medals, 12 silver, and 11 bronze. The US won 12 gold, 12 silver, and 9 bronze. Italy won 10 gold, 6 silver, and 14 bronze.
The events that Norway won in gold in were Cross-Country Skiing, winning 6 in that event, Biathlon, with 3 gold won, Nordic, combined with 3 gold, Freestyle Skating, winning 2 gold, Ski Jumping with 2, and Speed Skating, with 1 gold. An amazing performance by Norway.
The United States made the historic achievement of beating Canada in Ice Hockey! This was the first time in 46 years! We also won 3 medals in Speed Skating, with 2 gold and 1 silver, making a new 500m record. We also got our first Women’s Single Title in Figure Skating since 2002. We also won the Women’s Monobob in Bobsledding, with the racer becoming the most decorated Women’s Bobsledder.
One student quoted that their favorite moment from the Olympics was when the Japanese Freestyle Skier finished the event backwards in the Men’s Duel Moguls. He also believes that the United States did well in the Winter Olympics by beating Canada in Hockey.
It was a pretty good Winter Olympic season for the US! It was an amazing few weeks filled with thrill and suspense! Many jaw dropping moments came from this year’s Olympics!
