8th Graders Get A Taste Of HHS

The PAW News staff

On Tuesday the 26th, eighth graders from surrounding feeder schools got a taste of Hughson High during the first annual Welcome to The Pack Conference. The conference was put on by various students and staff in order to attract students to Hughson High School.

“Our goal was to showcase all the opportunities and activities offered to Hughson High students,” said Learning Director Natalie Moring. “I feel this is impactful because with this we can draw students in who may not know much about our high school.”

With a variety of classes and over 30 clubs, the upcoming students were able to know why Hughson High is an amazing school with a lot of opportunities.

During the 8th grader’s lunch period, some of the clubs set up shop to help students earn stickers, which were turned into prizes. The clubs that set up booths were as follows: The HHS Paw, Model United Nations, Key Club, HHS Band, LOH, Pride Clube, Hughson FFA, CSF, Renaissance, Academic Decathlon, Mock Trials, HHS Drumline, Black Plague, Photography, and all of our sports.

Although the 8th graders were here to experience HHS and get a taste of what it will be like for them being an incoming freshman, they also experienced performances from the HHS choir, band, and guitar club. The incoming freshmen were able to see what the performing arts programs here can offer.

At lunch, students and staff were treated to a meal provided by Ag boosters, who have been a part of Hughson’s Ag community for over two decades. The team members cooked and served for 238 eighth graders, and all of the teachers, staff, and parents in attendance.

Mr. Cardoso, one of the ag teachers who were very involved in yesterday’s event, said “The one thing I know for certain is that our Hughson Ag Boosters always step up to the plate and are willing to do whatever they can to make our community and campus look great. They constantly go above and beyond to make sure that our students are supported. We appreciate everything they do for us and their continued support of our communities FFA and 4H programs.”

At the end of the event, eighth graders were presented with a video that was made by LOH that very day showcasing the event.  The video captured the essence of the day and the heartbeat of Hughson High.
