Hoopscoming+2022

As most of you readers already know, a highly anticipated “Hoops Coming” is rapidly approaching. According to Devrie Barstow, Hoops Coming night will be attended on February 1st 2022, and Hoops-Coming week will be January 31st – February 4th. The boys Varsity Basketball game starts at 7:00 and the ceremony (where we will be crowning the King, Queen, Prince, and Princess) is during halftime of the game.

What is “Hoops-Coming”?

Hoops-Coming is homecoming for basketball season. There will continue to be Royalty Court and different games throughout the week. There will be a Buffball tournament that everyone is welcome to watch, where the Junior and Senior boys play Volleyball against each other.

This year, the theme for hoopscoming is “Lettuce Celebrate”. Just like any basketball game, there will be a snack shack open to purchase snacks as well as a DJ playing music.

Some people wonder what the actual difference between hoopscoming and homecoming really is. According to Devrie Barstow, “It is different from Homecoming because it is smaller and during our winter basketball season but in the same concept of having a royal court and crowning a Varsity King and Queen and a Junior Varsity Prince and Princess”. Hoopscoming is during the halftime of the boys Varsity Basketball game , so if you are a student at HHS and have your ASB card it is  free. If you do not have an ASB card and would still like to attend, tickets will be the same price  As the regular basketball games. This is not an event to dress up for, unless you are a part of the Ceremony. If you are escorting someone during the Ceremony, it is advised to dress nicely, but if you are just coming to watch it is not formal attire.

“I am very excited about this event because it gets so many students involved with school spirit. As well as getting them involved in all the fun activities during the week. I love representing the school as a leader and someone to look up to, to plan activities during the year. Hoopscoming brings so many memories for the students to make and enjoy and I am proud that I can help keep the tradition alive here at Hughson High School.” Devrie Barstow said in response to being asked how excited she was for the upcoming event
