Husky In the Hot Seat: Mr. McBride

Sophia Sanchez, Staff Writer

Sophia Sanchez: How long have you been teaching at Hughson High?

Mr. McBride: This is my first year, I joined the Hughson staff in October, 2021. The school was down a teacher so I joined to help out the students who needed a teacher.

Sophia Sanchez: What do you teach?

Mr. McBride: I teach English 9 and 12. Come visit me in Room 8!

Sophia Sanchez: If you could teach another subject, would you?

Mr. McBride: I would love to teach Psychology, Philosophy, Sociology, Mythology, or Weightlifting. I love English, but these electives truly challenge students to open their minds and grow as Intellectuals.

Sophia Sanchez: What was your favorite part of high school?

Mr. McBride: My favorite part of high school was my French class. My French teacher is who inspired me to teach by connecting with me and showing me that I was more capable than I thought.

Sophia Sanchez: What was your favorite subject in high school?

Mr. McBride: My favorite subject was always English as writing just felt natural and it always served as such an excellent escape for me. Writing is such a therapeutic process and truly allows you to express yourself.

Sophia Sanchez: What grades do you teach?

Mr. McBride: I currently teach 9th and 12th grade.

Sophia Sanchez: What’s one thing you would change about our school?

Mr. McBride: I would love to see more school spirit based activities, such as rallies for sporting events, dress up days with school wide incentives, staff vs. students sports fundraisers, etc. Naturally school is primarily about academics, but if a school creates a fun, spirited environment, students enjoy being here. Then the buy-in to academics comes much easier.
